How To Create Your Work Portfolio

I want to congratulate you in advance, because if you are looking to create your portfolio or improve the one you already have, it means that you are a person eager to learn and expand your work.

There are several ways to create your portfolio, you can create it in Wix, WordPress, Adobe Portfolio, Canva, and many more. What I will recommend today is Wix.

If you haven't heard of Wix, well, you are reading this article on a site created on the same platform. The truth is, I love it, unlike other platforms for creating websites, this is the one that is easiest to use and is super customizable. Wix is a SaaS (Software as a Service), what they offer you is a product in the form of a service.

There are other open source platforms, in these platforms, you can make your page from the SCRATCH, and therefore, it is completely customizable, even more than Wix or other website building platforms. But to use these open source platforms, you must have some programming knowledge or hire someone who is an expert on the subject.

Now that you already know a little more about open source and software-as-a-service website platforms, we can start creating your portfolio.

1. Go to www.wix.com

2. Click on "Create new site"

3. When you click on "Create New Site", you'll get the following screen:

If you already have experience creating websites and want to be completely original, I would recommend the "create a blank canvas" option. But if you are a beginner and it is your first time using Wix, then I recommend that you use the "use a template" option. Here you can use any template, you can even search for "portfolio" and there are pre-existing templates to show your work with that template. There are also templates for e-commerce stores, wedding sites, for technology companies, yoga studios, architectural studios, events, etc.

Options are almost endless, and each template is customizable, here is what you can do:

Translate the page with Wix Multilingual

Add a payment page

Create an event page

Show products

Add links to other sites

All these tools will allow you to showcase your work, whether you are a company or a freelancer, at first it was difficult for me to create a portfolio and every time a potential employer asked me for my portfolio, I used a Canva presentation with some elements my work did not fit in a presentation, that's why I chose to look for options and fell in love with Wix, because my portfolio on this platform really came to life.

Finally, if you don't want to spend money, you can start by creating your site for free, and start paying until your site is completed, you can pay for the monthly or annual subscription. One thing that is true is that it is much cheaper to pay the annual subscription than monthly because they give you a great discount if you pay before hand.
